It depends on how far your address is. HibaChef adds a travel fee for distances over 40 miles, and the Outer Banks covers a lot of ground, so rentals at the far ends, like Corolla in the north or Buxton and Hatteras Village in the south, are more likely to see one. The only way to know for sure is to share your exact address when you reach out. Ask for the travel fee to be included in your quote so your full total is clear before you make a payment.

What happens if it rains or the wind picks up during our beach week?

HibaChef cooks rain or shine, so weather alone does not cancel the event, and it does not qualify for a refund. If rain is in the forecast, you are responsible for giving the chef a covered cooking area, such as a tent, awning, or covered patio. Wind is often the bigger factor on the Outer Banks. An ocean breeze can pick up quickly in the evening, so choose a spot on the sheltered side of the house if you can. If you need to reschedule, ask as early as possible. Changes made within 48 hours of the event carry a $200 fee, and nothing is final until HibaChef approves it in writing.

What does a typical Outer Banks hibachi party cost once everything is added up?

Here's a realistic example. Twelve adults on the Hibachi Regular and four kids on the Hibachi Kids package comes to $780. Add four lobster upgrades at $15 each and you are at $840. Sales tax and gratuity are not included in package pricing, so budget for both. A travel fee may also apply if your rental is more than 40 miles out. Can the chef cook for us right on the beach?

Generally, no. The grill and equipment need a flat, level, stable surface, and loose sand does not give the chef that. Carrying a full cooking setup over dune crossovers and public beach accesses is not practical either, and open-flame rules on the beach can vary from town to town. The better plan is to spend the day on the sand and have dinner back at the house. If your rental has a patio or pool deck with a view of the water, you still get plenty of the beach atmosphere with a setup that actually works.

Collect choices before the event, not at the table. With the Hibachi Regular, each adult picks two entrees from Chicken, Jumbo Shrimp, Prime NY Strip, Scallops, Salmon, and Tofu. Filet Mignon is an $8 upgrade and Lobster is a $15 upgrade. Kids pick one entree. For a house full of relatives, a shared note or group text with names and picks makes it easy to send HibaChef a clean list. If tracking individual orders sounds like too much, the Hibachi Special gives everyone the same Chicken, Shrimp, and NY Strip combination, which keeps things simple.

HibaChef can work around many preferences, but it cannot guarantee an allergen-free environment. Everything is cooked on shared equipment, and cross-contact can happen during prep and service. If someone in your group has a serious allergy, talk with HibaChef before you book, not the week of the event. For vegetarian guests, Tofu is on the entree list, and other simple requests can often be handled with enough notice.

Skip check-in day if you can. Many Outer Banks rentals turn over on Saturday or Sunday, and that day tends to fill up with bridge traffic, grocery runs, and unpacking. A night in the middle of the week usually works better, once everyone has settled in. Start times are 1PM, 2PM, 3PM, 4PM, 5PM, 7PM, 8PM, and 9PM, and the team arrives ahead of your slot to set up. A 5PM or 7PM start lines up well after a day at the beach. Later slots work too, but make sure the cooking area has good outdoor lighting.

Yes. For groups of 20 or more, HibaChef offers a Buffet Style option at $36 per person, which includes chicken, shrimp, steak, mixed vegetables, and egg fried rice. The trade-off is real: buffet service does not include the hibachi show, so you lose the live cooking and entertainment most people book HibaChef for. For a reunion where feeding everyone matters more than the performance, it can make sense. If your rental is short on seating, table rental runs $15 per person and covers tables, chairs, tablecloths, utensils, and plates. It is subject to availability, so request it early.
