Yes. HibaChef's coverage in Mobile extends well beyond the city center. Areas like Birmingham, Huntsville, Tuscaloosa, and other communities are part of the service zone. For locations beyond 40 miles from the chef's base, a travel fee will apply. Mobile sees a lot of rain. What happens if the weather turns on my event day?

HibaChef operates rain or shine. Adverse weather conditions do not qualify for a refund or a fee-free cancellation. As the host, you are responsible for having an appropriate outdoor shelter in place for the cooking setup, such as a tent, covered patio, or awning. The chef and grill stay outside throughout the event, but with some advance preparation on your end, a bit of Gulf Coast weather does not have to throw the night off track. What should my outdoor cooking space look like before the HibaChef team arrives?

Accepted Answer

Plan to have the area clear, flat, and accessible before the team shows up. The chef needs enough room to move around the grill safely, which means no overhead obstructions, no uneven ground, and open pathways for bringing in equipment. Good ventilation is important given the open-flame cooking. A standard backyard patio or open lawn section works well in most cases. If you are setting up on a deck, confirm it can safely handle the heat from the grill before booking.

Can I add lobster or filet mignon on top of a package, or do I need to choose a different package for that?

Accepted Answer

Upgrades are available as add-ons to any package. Filet Mignon can be added for an additional $8 per person, and a Lobster upgrade runs an additional $15 per person. These are priced per guest, so the charge applies to each person who wants the upgrade rather than as a single flat fee for the group. How long does a HibaChef event typically last from start to finish?

The cooking portion of a typical event runs somewhere between one and a half to two and a half hours, depending on your guest count and the menu selections. Setup begins before that, and cleanup follows after the cooking is done. Larger groups naturally take more time to cook for. If you have a hard end time because of a venue rule or noise curfew in your neighborhood, mention it when you book so the team can factor it into the plan. Available start times are 1PM, 2PM, 3PM, 4PM, 5PM, 7PM, 8PM, and 9PM.

What is the actual difference between the Hibachi Regular and the Hibachi Special?

The Hibachi Regular is $55 per person and gives each guest a choice of any two entrees from the full list, including chicken, jumbo shrimp, prime NY strip, scallops, salmon, and tofu. The Hibachi Special is $65 per person and comes as a preset combination of chicken, shrimp, and NY strip with no selection required. If your group has guests with different protein preferences, the Regular gives you the flexibility to accommodate that. If you want the crowd-favorite combination without any back-and-forth, the Special is the simpler route.

Can my guests sit inside while the chef cooks outside?

Yes. HibaChef requires the chef, grill, and cooking station to stay outdoors throughout the event, but where your guests sit is entirely your call. If you want people inside and have them step out to catch the show, that setup works fine. The key is that the outdoor cooking area has to be clear, level, and well-ventilated so the chef has a safe space to work. Many Mobile hosts do a mix of indoor seating and outdoor watching, especially when the evening heats up.

Is gratuity included in the package price, and how does tipping work?

Gratuity is not included. The per-person rates cover the food, the chef, the live cooking experience, and the setup, but a tip for the chef is handled separately and is entirely at your discretion.
